Fellow Honda CR500 enthusiasts, you must be here because you have an affinity for these legendarily powerful dirt bikes. Though these motocross monsters may have been discontinued in 2001, we’re bringing them back to life at BNJ Powersports!
How is that possible, you ask, especially since Honda stopped producing them due to EPA emissions regulations? It’s a rather simple answer: We’re not Honda, and we’re not under the same restrictions they are.
What that means for you is that you’re getting the full 60+ horsepower performance you expect when you get on your new CR500. These were the biggest-bore two-stroke dirt bikes ever produced in their time, and each one we make will act like it.

Completely Honda
We use proper Honda parts as much as possible. From frames to engines and mirrors to seat cushions, these bikes are CR500s, and we want to keep them that way. We have nothing against other bikes, of course, but it wouldn’t be a proper preservation effort if we diluted the bike’s pedigree. These were — and are, after all — the gold standard for dirt bikes.
Individually Numbered
When you receive your CR500, you’re getting a part of history. We want to make sure these bikes are properly honored, so we give each their own unique production number.
Ready for Recreational Use or Competition in Open Class
Whether you want a CR500 for your own private fun or plan on dominating the open class, these things were made for motocross, so why not take it out on the trail and show others what it can do?

CR500 & CR500 AF Conversions
For the uninitiated, there were two main flavors of the Honda CR500: the original steel frame models and the later-introduced aluminum frame Honda CR500 AF versions, which were essentially CRF 450r with CR500 motors.
What we do for our conversions is purchase a new motorcycle, strip it down to the frame, and convert it into a CR500. In some cases, we upgrade motors with billet cases, so they don’t crack.
The choice is yours as to whether you want us to source a bike or if you want to send us your own. Talk to us first to make sure you select from a range of dirt bikes that will work. Don’t worry; when we’re done, your bike will sound, look, and feel like a real vintage Honda CR500 or Honda CR500 AF!
Complete CR500/CR500 AF Dirt Bikes
We’ll also make sure we have complete bikes on hand. If you want a new, completed, fully-converted CR500, we’ll have it ready for you! We will purchase a new Honda motorcycle and handle the entire conversion process. You just need to pick it up and pay for it. What could be better?
Complete CR500/CR500 AF Vehicle Kit
We can also supply everything you need to complete a project bike. You can think of this as a vehicle kit, where the final work is done on your end. You won’t be left in the cold, though, as we’ll make sure you have all the info you need to complete your bike.
Given our conversion work, we definitely want your CR500 bikes and parts!
CR500s are getting rarer all the time, but we plan to reverse that course. Even with that being said, though, if there are parts or even entire bikes that can be saved, we want them.

Restorations and Projects
Obviously, we care a lot about preserving the legacy of these awesome dirt bikes. If you have a CR500 or CR500 AF that needs restoration, we can handle that. You can trust us with the following measures:
- Refurbishing old Honda engines
- Turning a basketcase into a showroom-ready bike
- Complete a stagnant project bike
We can also go ahead and buy your old CR500 dirt bikes, either restoring them to sell to others or parting them out, depending on their condition.
CR500 Repairs
Now BNJ Powersports is not a service center. We won’t just change the oil and give your CR500 a spitshine, as there are plenty of shops for that. We’re here to perform major repairs that the other shops can’t do.
No matter what year CR500 you have, we can make sure it’s back to factory specs:
- 84 air-cooled bikes
- The high-horsepower 85-91 models
- Bikes with the 89 and up redesigned heads
- 95 and later bikes with Kayaba suspension
- 97 and up CR500 AFs
No matter what specific parts you need, we make sure you get the correct ones. Have an earlier model with a 51-tooth rear sprocket instead of the later 49-tooth? We’ll make sure everything’s as it should be.
